Imagine spending 5 days in the magical landscape of the high desert in Carefree, Arizona. Join me at Spirit in the Desert Retreat Center, to awaken your senses, ignite your imagination, and connect with like-hearted women. Allow yourself to experiment and create without expectation or judgement, and bring out that inner kindergartener who loves to play with art materials.
We’ll be making an upcycled journal, Gelli printed papers, and a shrine to honor someone or something that has deep meaning for you. Also, you will each get a free “Creativity Coaching” session with me if you would like that. I have been helping creative folks get “unstuck” and continue to reach their goals for years.
Our “open studio” is there for you all day and night, to explore creative materials in a safe and inspiring space.

What would it be like to enjoy guided studio sessions involving a variety of art materials?
This retreat is designed to invigorate your artistic senses and help you find new ways to relax and renew. You will feel welcomed and encouraged to explore your creative side. Your imagination and sleeping “inner artist” will awake and delight you. And you will be given tools to continue your exploration of the arts when you return home.

Who are you creatively?
How do you express yourself with words and images?
What is your “creative language”?
In addition to being fun, art making can be healing, informative, insightful, encouraging, and especially in community with like-hearted folks.
Your art journal will be created using a hard-cover book, and you will create your own signatures (or groups of pages) to begin your story. I will guide you through each step with lots of encouragement.
The shrine can be made from a box of your choice: a cigar box, shoe box, kitchen matchbox, or tissue box. It could be something round, like a candy tin or hubcap. You are only limited by your imagination.
And we will be creating our own collage papers using the wonderful Gelli Plate and paints and stencils. Again, you will be taken through each creative step with care and clarity!
This retreat takes place at Spirit in the Desert Retreat Center in Carefree, Arizona, about 40 minutes north of PHX airport.

Kat Kirby was born and raised in New Jersey, into a family that valued art, music, theater, and all things creative. She learned at an early age that creativity and self-expression were keys to a fulfilling life.
Since the early 1970s, Kat has been a believer in the healing power of the arts and creative self-expression. After retiring from a 40-year career as an Expressive Arts Therapist, her passions include teaching a variety of workshops such as creating art journals, mosaics, SoulCollage®, handmade books, Mixed Media arts, watercolors and doodles, and more. She has led art retreats around the world, including France, Portugal, the Caribbean, as well as Sedona, Carefree, AZ, and California. Kat enjoys exploring and experimenting with art materials, and loves encouraging her students and retreatants to make friends with their inner kindergartener.
When she teaches, whether it be virtual or in person, her two rules are:
1) You can’t be wrong, and
2) Have fun!
Cancellations and Refunds:
If you need to cancel your registration for any reason, please let Kat know as soon as possible by sending her an email to kat4clay@gmail.com.
If you or I can fill your spot, I will refund your payment, minus the $350 nonrefundable deposit. If we are unable to fill your space, I will not be able to issue you a refund.
If the retreat has to be cancelled for reasons outside of our control, you will receive a refund, minus your deposit.
If I have to cancel, which I have never done, you will receive a full refund.
2KatStudios is not responsible for your expenses incurred in preparation for any cancelled retreat, such as airline tickets, loss of work, and/or other costs associated with preparing for your trip. For this reason, I highly recommend travel cancellation insurance.

Registration starts at 3pm on Wednesday, May 17th, and we will have a little get together before dinner, then dinner, then a studio tour. We finish on Sunday, May 21st, after lunch, around 1pm.
